Contribución a la historia de la educación física en España. Estudio bio-bibliográfico en torno a la educación física y el deporte (1800-1939).

Resumen

En esta tesis se presenta un Catálogo bio-bibliográfico cronológico-nominal de obras publicadas en lengua Castellana y Catalana, en torno a la educación física, el deporte y otras obras afines entre el período de 1800 a1939.
Para situar el Catálogo en el marco histórico de la educación física se ha partido de un estudio sobre los antecedentes e influencias de la educación física en España y se ha completado con el llamado Renacimiento gimnasiarca europeo del final de la Ilustración. También se ha elaborado una memoria histórica del sistema educativo español, con el objeto de incluir la educación física en el contexto pedagógico y administrativo.
El estudio a priori de los documentos localizados ha permitido el acercamiento contextual a la temática coyuntural que subyace en el desarrollo e implantación de la educación física y el deporte en España. Ello se ha concretado en la elaboración de un cuadro cronológico sobre los acontecimientos más destacados en torno a la educación física y el deporte (1800-1839).
El Catálogo contiene 881 obras y un apartado de últimas adiciones. Para la confección se ha procedido a una clasificación documental atendiendo a la nacionalidad española o extranjera del autor y al ámbito profesional de cada uno de ellos. También se han clasificado los documentos según el contenido, el tipo y el objeto de la publicación.
Para facilitar la localización y organización de las obras según los intereses investigadores se incluye un apartado de índices: cronológico-nominal, nominal de autorías, por tipo de publicación –según la confección de una clasificación sistemática propia–, por ámbito temático, por palabras clave, por procedencia del autor, según autoridad profesional, por lugar de edición o por fondos documentales.
El Catálogo aporta una información sobre el acceso a las fuentes documentales originales e incorpora un estudio preliminar bibliográfico que analiza críticamente la producción bibliográfica española en torno al ámbito higiénico-médico, el pedagógico, el militar y las relaciones entre ellos.
Se complementa con un estudio estadístico y bibliométrico en el que se ponen de manifiesto la valoración de los resultados en la producción bibliográfica de forma cuantitativa y cualitativa en torno a la educación física, el deporte y las obras afines a lo largo del período fijado.
La presentación del Catálogo permite además la elaboración de un ensayo histórico de la educación física y el deporte contemporáneo a través del estudio bio-bibliográfico. Se trata de acercar el libro y el autor de obras de  la educación física y el deporte en España entre 1800 a 1939 a una valoración y significado crítico y además, comprobar los límites de la legitimación de la educación física en la España contemporánea a través de las obras y los autores propios de cada espacio profesional. Por último se valora y se analiza críticamente el patrimonio histórico documental de la educación física y el deporte en España.
En la metodología se han utilizado recursos y técnicas de análisis histórico en torno al tratamiento directo de las fuentes documentales originales. Muchos de estos documentos han sido localizados y adquiridos por cuenta propia, aportando un nuevo fondo documental a disposición de las investigaciones futuras y recuperando así, una parte importante del patrimonio bibliográfico de la educación física y el deporte en España.

Abstract

In this thesis I present a bio-bibliographic catalogue in nominal and chronological order of the works published in Spanish and Catalan concerning Physical Education, sport and similar subjects in the period between 1800 and 1939.
In order to situate the Catalogue in the historical frame of Physical Education, I have approached the subject starting with the precedents and influences of Physical Education in Spain and finished with, what is called, the European Gymnastic Renaissance, at the end of the “Age of Enlightenment”. Also a historical memoir of the Spanish Education System has been made, so as to include Physical Education in a teaching and administrative context.
The study, a priori, of the documents found has permitted a contextual approach to the underlying subject in the development and introduction of Physical Education and sport in Spain.  This has been illustrated by a chronological chart showing the most important events concerning Physical Education and sport (1800-1839).
The Catalogue contains 881 works and a section of last editions. I have used a classification of the documents according to the nationality of the author, Spanish or otherwise, and the professional field of each of them. I have also classified the documents according to their type, contents and purpose of the publication.
In order to make consultation and organization of the material easier for researchers, I have included an indexed section. This section is organized chronologically, by author´s name, type of publication, a systematic classification by subject, by key words, by country of origin of the author, by author´s profession, by the place of publishing, by documentary archives, etc.
The catalogue provides information concerning access to the original documentary sources and incorporates a preliminary bibliographic study which critically analyses the Spanish bibliographic production concerning the medical hygienic field, teaching methods, the military aspect and the relationship between them.
The catalogue also contains an statistical and bibliométrico study in which the results of the bibliographic production concerning Physical Education, sport and similar texts during the period under consideration, are valued and shown in a qualitative and quantitative way.
The presentation of the Catalogue allows the elaboration of a history of Physical Education and contemporary sport from the bio-bibliographic study which brings a valuation and critical view of the books and authors of Physical Education in Spain between 1800 and 1939; and establishes the limits of the legitimacy of Physical Education in contemporary Spain through the articles and books and the authors in each professional field. Finally, the historic and documentary patrimony of Physical Education and sport in Spain is valued and critically analyzed.
Resources and techniques of historical analysis have been used in the methodology concerning the direct treatment of the original documentary sources. Many of these documents have been found and acquired by me, bringing a new documentary resource which is available for future research and recovers an important part of the bibliographic patrimony of Physical Education and sport in Spain.
